How to Get Oatmeal Out of Carpet

Christina Sloane

Oatmeal has a sticky, gummy consistency that can be difficult to remove from objects once it dries. When prepared oatmeal falls onto carpeting, the gooey liquid seeps into fibers and hardens into a tough paste. Remove spilled oatmeal from carpet using a few common cleaning supplies.

Spilled oatmeal can gum up carpeting.
  1. Scoop up as much oatmeal as possible using a spoon, and dispose of it in a trash can.

  2. Blot any remaining liquid with a white paper towel. If the oatmeal is already dry, spray it lightly with water.

  3. Dab a soft cloth into carpet cleaning solution to clean any remaining stains. Blot the stain with the cloth until the stain goes away.

  4. Spray the treated area with a small amount of water and cover the area with paper towels. Let the spot dry for several hours.
