How to Stop a Bedroom Door From Rattling

Examine the door for loose screws. When screws loosen in the door's hinges, the door can rattle and shake when it is opened. Check each hinge for loose screws.

Tighten any loose screws with a screwdriver. Use the screwdriver to ensure that all screws are flush with the hinge and that the hinges are tight against the door and the wall.

Use a hinge oil or a lubricant like WD-40. Apply the oil to the hinges and the doorknob to solve any squeaking or rattling that may occur as a result of stuck or dried hinges.

Unscrew the strike plate from the door. This is the part of the door where the edge meets the door frame.

Bend the small tab inside the strike plate toward the opening and reattach the strike plate to the door.

Remove the door stop from the doorjamb; a rattling sound can be caused by a space between the door and the door stop. Use pliers to remove the old nails from the door jamb.

Place the door stop back in its old position on the doorjamb and hammer it in with several nails. Test the door by closing it. Make sure the door is flush with the door stop.

Hammer in several more nails once the door stop is flush with the door when closed. Ensure that all nail heads are flush with the wood.
