How to Repair Laminate Flooring With Wood Fill Products

Shelley Marie
Laminate floors require special filler to match their texture, color and sheen.

Chips and cracks in wood laminate floors are bound to occur from heavy traffic or regular wear. Acrylic wood fill products designed for use on laminate floors make it easy for busy moms to fill and repair these unattractive blemishes in the floor without the need for expensive plank replacements. You can find acrylic wood fill products in a variety of colors to match the shade of your laminate floor, so additional products aren't necessary. Keep kids and pets off of the repaired areas until they're fully cured.

Step 1

Clean the damaged area of the laminate floor with a cloth dampened with all-purpose cleaner and water. Rinse the floor with a wet cloth to remove any soap residue but leave the floor damp.

Step 2

Squeeze the tube of filler to apply it to the damaged area of the floor. Smooth it out with your finger or a damp cloth. Don't fill more than 1/4 inch deep at a time. Allow each layer to dry for four hours, and then apply another coat as needed.

Step 3

Wipe off any excess filler on the surrounding laminate with a damp cloth before it dries. To remove dried filler, dampen it with mineral spirits on a cloth. Wait five minutes for it to soften, then clean it with the cloth.

Tip

Wash your hands after handling wood filler.
