How to Fix Hardwood Floor Scratches using Mayonnaise
Scratches on hardwood floors are relatively common. They can occur from a variety of ways and can be light surface scratches or deep scratches that penetrate the finish. Once the finish has been penetrated, the lighter color of the wood beneath will show up and become very noticeable.
There are many available fixes for hardwood floor scratches, but perhaps the one that is available to virtually anyone is using mayonnaise to make them disappear.
Things You Will Need
- Soft cloth
- Mayonnaise
-
Clean the damaged surface so that you remove all dust and dirt from the area. Use a damp cloth to remove dirt and dust from the surface to be fixed.
-
Dab a generous amount of mayonnaise onto the scratch with a soft cloth. Use enough mayo so that it completely fills the scratch. You should not be able to see the scratches with the white mayonnaise covering them.
-
Wait approximately 3 to 4 minutes. Wipe away the mayo with a napkin or towel. The mayonnaise will leave a greasy film in the crack. This film will generally take on the color of the surrounding hardwood floor material, thus hiding the scratch. .
