Swiss chard from your garden is easy to freeze, so don't worry if your harvest is bigger than anticipated. Prep your chard for freezing by selecting fresh, crisp greens and washing them thoroughly in running water.
Remove any damaged sections or thick stems as you go. A quick blanch and plunge in icy water prepares the leafy greens for the deep freeze.
Blanch, Cool and Bag
Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil on the stove while you fill a bowl with ice water. When the water is boiling, toss in the chard for two minutes, then remove it and plunge it into the ice water for another couple of minutes.
Take the chard out of the water and let it drain. When it's dry, divide it into portions and place each into freezer storage bags.
Place the bags in your freezer, where they should last for roughly a year.
