How to Get a Gatorade Stain Out of Fabric

Kathryn Hatter

Gatorade contains food colorings that make it difficult to remove from fabrics and carpeting. There are stain-removal products designed to remove tough food-coloring stains, however, and they can be effective for removing the extreme colors of Gatorade.

  1. Spray the stain with Wine Away to completely saturate it. Allow the product to set for up to 15 minutes. Spray another prewash laundry product onto the stain and wash as usual in the washing machine. Remove the garment from the washing machine and determine if the stain has been removed. If the stain is gone, dry the garment as normal. Repeat the procedure if the stain remains.

  2. Mix 1 oz. Oxy-Clean Stain Remover with 16 oz. water. Saturate the stain with the cleaning solution and allow it to set for 5 minutes. Rinse completely and allow the garment to dry. If the stain remains, mix 4 oz. Oxy-Clean to 1 gallon warm water in the bucket. Add the stained item and leave it to soak for up to 6 hours. Remove the garment, rinse and wash as usual in the washing machine. Remove the garment from the washing machine and determine if the stain has been removed. If the stain is gone, dry the garment as normal. Repeat the soaking procedure if the stain remains.

  3. Saturate the stained area with isopropyl alcohol and place it in the washing machine. Wash the garment as usual and remove. Determine if the stain has been removed. If the stain is gone, dry the garment as normal.
