High blood pressure, or hypertension, is also known as the "silent killer" because many people don’t even know they have it. According to the American Heart Association, one out of every three Americans has high blood pressure, and one third of those who suffer from it do not know they have it.
There are herbal teas to help keep blood pressure under control.
Alfalfa tea is a good herbal tea to help treat high blood pressure. To make alfalfa tea, you will need one teaspoon of crushed alfalfa seeds and four cups of water.
Boil the seed in the water for a half hour and strain. Let cool and drink one cup six to seven times a day.
Hawthorn tea is another great herbal tea to help keep your blood pressure under control. To make hawthorn tea, you will need one teaspoon of crushed hawthorn blossoms, one teaspoon of crushed hawthorn dried leaves and a cup of boiling water.
For best results combine the hawthorn blossoms and leaves with the boiling water and let brew for 20 minutes. Strain, let cool and drink a half cup two to three times a day.
Marigold tea is also a good source to help treat high blood pressure. To make marigold tea, you will need one to two teaspoons of crushed marigold flower heads and two cups of boiling water.
Combine the marigold and the water and let steep for 15 to 20 minutes; then throw away the flower heads and the tea is ready. For best results drink one cup twice a day.
The benefits of using herbal tea for high blood pressure is because herbal tea is all natural. It has no harsh chemicals and therefore has no side effects as prescription and over-the-counter medications do.
Herbal tea may not be for everyone who suffers from high blood pressure. If it is severe, herbal tea may help, but prescription medication taken with herbal tea may be better for you.
Speak to a doctor before you decide to use herbal tea.
