How to Paint a Suncast Deck Box

Jasey Kelly

All of Suncast's deck boxes are constructed from a weather-resistant resin. Resin, like plastic, is difficult to paint without a specialty paint because the surface is slick and doesn't allow paint to adhere properly. Sometimes the paint will puddle; other times the paint may peel off in strips.

A Suncast deck box can add much needed storage space to your outdoor living areas.

Some paint manufacturers have developed spray paints specifically for plastics, making it simpler to complete the task of painting your favorite outdoor plastic and resin furniture -- including a Suncast deck box.

  1. Hose down the Suncast deck box to remove any debris.

  2. Clean the Suncast deck box with a soapy water solution and dry with a towel.

  3. Wipe down the Suncast deck box with a paper towel and paint thinner and allow it to dry completely.

  4. Lay down newspaper in a well-ventilated area such as outside or in an open garage; place the deck box on the newspaper.

  5. Shake the can for two minutes and hold the can 8 inches from the deck box.

  6. Spray the box in long, sweeping motions starting on the side of the box and working your way past the other side. Apply several thin coats of the spray paint, waiting 30 seconds to a few minutes between each coat. Several thin coats and the long, sweeping motion minimize the risk of runs and drips.

  7. Tip

Different products may have slightly different instructions; read the label to ensure you are applying the product correctly.
