How to Get Dog Urine Smell Out of Fabric

1. Soak up as much of the urine as possible with newspaper and paper towels. It is important to dab gently to avoid grinding the urine into the fabric. At this stage, do not use any water, simply let as much urine soak up as possible. Adding water can dilute the urine, allowing it to soak deeper into the fabric and spread.

2. Mix your cleaning solution. Fill a spray bottle half full with water, then add 2 oz. of hydrogen peroxide, 2 oz. of vinegar, and 1/2 oz. of dish soap. Shake lightly to mix the solution while avoiding shaking so hard that you make the dish soap bubble up. Now you have a cleaning solution that will take the stain and smell of urine out of any fabric.

3. Apply cleaning solution to the soiled fabric. Spray the entire area until it is saturated with your cleaning solution. The vinegar and peroxide in the solution will break up the urine. The water and dish soap will clean up the mixture of broken up urine, vinegar and peroxide as you scrub it with a cleaning cloth. Do this until the stain starts to fade from sight.

4. Sprinkle baking soda over the whole area. This will aid in breaking up the urine and will pull the solution out of the fabric as it absorbs moisture. At this point you can start to scrub the soiled area with a cloth, working the cleaning solution and baking soda into the fabric as deeply as possible. Use cold water with your cleaning solution and scrub vigorously for a few minutes. Hot water will make the stains set in faster, so never use hot water or a steam cleaner.

5. Clean up with cold water. After you have scrubbed your solution and some baking soda into the area, take cold water and saturate the soiled area again. Now you can use a cloth or paper towels to dab up all of the moisture in your fabric. This will remove the cleaning solution and baking soda, taking the urine along with it. You will now have an odor free, clean area of fabric without using any harsh chemicals or expensive cleaning products.
