Professional Cleaning

Have your faux mink blanket professionally dry-cleaned or laundered for the best possible results. While the material is only acrylic and certainly can be washed with water and detergent, the weight and texture of the blanket makes it difficult to launder at home. Professional cleaners have commercial-sized washing machines and dryers to ensure the best quality of blanket care.

Using a Washing Machine

Put blankets 1 inch thick or less in your home washing machine. Use your regular laundry detergent, but do not use bleach or fabric softener. Use cold water to protect the blanket's color. Also, use the most gentle cycle available, such as hand wash or delicate.

Drying Your Blanket

Put your blanket in the dryer on its lowest setting for at least an hour. The blanket is basically plastic, so high temperatures may melt your blanket in places and warp the shape. A tumble-dry setting will fluff your blanket back to its original softness without compromising its quality.

Spot Cleaning

Use a color-safe spot treatment to remove small stains quickly--carpet stain removal spray or laundry pretreatment spray both work well. Spray the product directly on the blanket's stain and let it soak for about 10 minutes. Gently blot the stain out with a damp cloth.

The Drip Cap
