Use ice cubes to freeze the tar until it's brittle.
Scrape the tar off of your wood floors using a plastic spatula, fingernail or anything that won't scratch the floor.
Remove any tar residue left behind by scrubbing the stained area with a damp cloth.
Apply a formulated safety solvent or a dry cleaning solvent if necessary.
Wipe up the tar stain with a dry cloth.
Use a scouring pad if the stain persists. Use a fine grade and be very careful so you don't permanently scratch the floor.
Refinish your flooring if your cleaning methods caused any scratches in your hardwood floors.
Laminate Wood Flooring
Try to scratch the tar off using a fingernail or the dull end of a knife.
Apply a light amount of acetone or rubbing alcohol to the tar. Test this in a hidden area first, just in case these chemicals damage your flooring.
Wipe the tar with a dry cloth to remove it from your laminate wood flooring.
