How to Clean a Fedders Air Conditioner Filter

Ashley Hay

Fedders air conditioner units install directly into a window or wall of the home. If you notice that the unit is not cooling properly or that it is not functioning well, a dirty filter may be the cause.

Fedders recommends that the filter be cleaned at least once a month or as often as every two weeks if the unit is run on a daily bases. Cleaning the filter only takes mere minutes.

  1. Push the power button to the “Off” position on the Fedders air conditioner, and then unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.

  2. Locate the air filter’s top ridge, and pull it up and out of the air conditioner unit. The filter is directly behind the vent on the front of the unit.

  3. Rinse off the filter with hot water, and then wash it with a mixture of soap and water.

  4. Rinse the soap and water mixture off the filter, and then wave it up and down to remove excess water.

  5. Slide the filter back into place, and turn the fan mode to “High.”

  6. Allow the fan to run a few minutes to air-dry the filter.
