Troubleshooting the Magic Chef Freezer

Possible solutions include checking to make sure that the freezer is plugged in completely and checking the breaker box to ensure a fuse hasn't blown or the breaker hasn't tripped off, causing the power to go out in that area.

Freezer Not Working

If the latter is the case, check the ratings for that fuse and make sure that you don't have too many appliances running electricity from that sector.

Compressor Keeps Turning Off and On

There are many possible reasons why the Magic Chef freezer compressor could begin to malfunction. It can happen if the room temperature is warmer than usual, or if there has recently been a large amount of food added to the freezer. It can also be a symptom of the freezer door being opened too often, or not being closed correctly. If the freezer has recently been turned off for some time, please note that it will take four hours for the appliance to reach its optimum temperature.

Freezer Not Getting Cold Enough

Make sure the door is shutting properly. Check the gaskets on the door to ensure that it is sealing completely when the door is shut and make sure that there is nothing obstructing the door from fully closing. Please also note that the addition of a lot of food will temporarily keep the freezer from reaching its optimum temperature. If nothing else, adjust the temperature control system to manually make it cooler. Check back in a few hours to see if the freezer is properly cool.

Popping Sound When Compressor Comes On

This is a normal sound, made when the metal rods in the freezer expand with the addition of cool air. The popping sounds should begin the level off or disappear entirely as the temperature in the freezer stabilizes.
