What Accent Color With Light Green?
When people see green, common associations include luck, wealth, nature and peace. Decorating your home with light green can help your family to feel calm and comfortable -- feelings that an inviting home should inspire. Although light green may look splendid in your home, too much of one color is often overwhelming.
You can break up the monotony by choosing accent colors to go with light green. Refer to the color wheel to find no-fail accent color choices.
Pink
Red and green are complementary colors because they are opposite each other on the color wheel. Light green is achieved by mixing white with green; pink is achieved by mixing white with red, which means that just as red and green complement each other, so do light green and pink, which is essentially light red. Of all the colors, pink has the most calming effect, so it is the ideal color choice for a relaxing room decor. This color pairing is used extensively in romantic home decor because the colors are reminiscent of spring. You can accent light green paint with pink trim, or use floral fabrics and wallpaper with pink flowers to accent a light green color scheme. A light green tablecloth is beautifully accented with pink candle holders, a vase of soft pink peonies or your best pink floral-patterned China.
Yellow
Yellow and green are analogous colors, meaning that yellow sits next to green on the color wheel. Because yellow is one of the colors used to make green, it is an obvious choice as an accent color for light green. You actually have two choices: you can pair light green with a light shade of yellow green or accent it with a buttery shade of yellow. When coupled with the calming effects of light green, a room accented in cheery yellow can have the effect of making you both calm and happy. Yellow can be overpowering, so subtle accents are the best decor option. Try draping a light green couch with a throw blanket that has a soft yellow pattern. Accent a light green wall with a painting of yellow flowers, such as gladiolus, tulips, snapdragons or roses.
Blue
Blue is the other color that is combined with yellow to make green and is analogous to green. Blue and green are the most common colors in nature, making blue a natural choice for an accent color with light green. You may wish to experiment with different shades of blue, but light blue will balance nicely with the light green color scheme. The body produces calming chemicals when the eye sees blue, but this effect isn't as reliable when blue overpowers a room. A light green and light blue color scheme would be a suitable choice for bedroom decor because both colors are known to calm people. You might also incorporate this color scheme in your home office; the calming effect of blue helps people focus on tasks while the color green helps with pacing your energy.
White
As a neutral color, white can be used as an accent color with any other color. This is a simple choice for an accent color because white must be added to green to make light green. The color is associated with purity, new beginnings, safety and cleanliness. White is the ideal accent color with light green for the homeowner who prefers a toned down decor or for those who add visual interest to their homes with accessories. If white is too bright for your taste, you could substitute a cream color or an off-white shade like eggshell or antique white. Another option is to use two accent colors, pairing white with another coordinating color like pink, yellow or blue.
