How to Clean Up PVC Glue
Clean up mess from PVC glue, also known as PVC cement, with common household products. Solvents are blended in a variety of formulations to make PVC glues that soften plastic surfaces and create adhesion. An uncapped jar of PVC cement can be easily knocked over and lead to a major spill.
Chances of complete removal are increased if the PVC glue spill is addressed right away.
Things You Will Need
- Paper towels
- Mineral or baby oil
- Liquid soap
- Sponge
Tip
PVC cement left on PVC pipes for five minutes or more has usually set completely. The residual solvent glue can then only be removed from other nonporous surfaces like porcelain tubs and sinks or sealed stone countertops.

Wipe up the excess or spilled PVC glue with paper towels. Discard the soaked towels carefully since the glue is flammable.

Apply a thin layer of mineral or baby oil to the PVC glue mess. Rub the oil into the surface in a circular motion to lift and neutralize the cement. Oil your hands thoroughly, then wash them with soap if they get any PVC glue on them.

Soak a sponge in warm, soapy water. Wring out the majority of the liquid, then wipe down the oil-covered surface with the soapy sponge.

Rinse the sponge under clean, running water. Wipe down the cleaned area to remove any soap residue. Dry the cleaned area with a paper towel.
