How to Check an Electrolux Dishwasher's Drainage

That's where the drainage system kicks in after the wash and rinse cycles to funnel used water out of the machine. A messy pool of dirty water or loud disturbing sounds in the dishwasher that occur during the numerous drainage phases could indicate a larger problem either inside or outside the machine. You can check the drainage system in four ways on most Electrolux dishwashers.

1. Run a regular washing cycle on your soiled dishes in the Electrolux dishwasher. Pull up a stool or chair, and sit between the dishwasher and your kitchen sink. Monitor the indicator lights on the door and the sounds coming from the dishwasher. After the washing and rinsing cycles, the appliance usually drains the used water that commonly goes through a drain hose leading to the sink. When drainage begins, move over to the garbage disposal drain in the sink, and look or listen for water that is leaving the dishwasher. If you can't confirm drainage, then the sink drain could be clogged. Run the disposer to try to clear the obstruction. Do not stick your hand or a utensil down the drain.

2. Run another wash cycle or continue to monitor the dishwasher if it is still operational after you've performed the previous step. When the Electrolux begins draining, open the cabinet door under the kitchen sink. Find the transparent drainage hose that runs from the the dishwasher and connects to the garbage disposal chamber underneath the sink drain. Look for used water to drain through the hose. If you notice that the flow of water is slow or nonexistent, try to remove any kinks or bends in the tubing.

3. Clean the filter, which is located at the bottom of most Electrolux dishwashers. These filters vary from model to model, but in general they capture large food particles. If you notice that water is not draining properly from the bottom of the tub, you may need to clean or replace the filter. Look in your dishwasher's owner's manual to find the precise instructions on how to check and remedy a clogged filter.

4. Reference the error code that appears on many Electrolux dishwashers' LCD display screen. Some models will show errors that have been automatically detected in the drainage system. For example, "Er 12" concerns the drain valve, and it indicates that it is running when it should be off. Again, look in your owner's manual for error codes specific to your model. These more difficult and complex problems might require that you contact Electrolux or another appliance technician to further investigate and troubleshoot the issue.
