How to Remove Metal Scratches from a Tile Floor

Try the remedies on inconspicuous places first, such as beneath the refrigerator or in a corner of the room, to ensure the methods do not remove the luster from the tiles. Different materials may require different applications to remove scratches.

1. Wipe the offended area of the tile floor with water and a clean cloth. Apply a nickel-size portion of glass cook top liquid cleanser. Rub the cleanser into the metal scratch mark in a circular motion. Wipe the cleanser away with a damp soft cloth and dry with another cleaning cloth.

2. Pour a small portion of scouring cleanser and polish that contains oxalic acid dihydrate onto a nylon scrubber. Gently scrub the scratch; rubbing too vigorously can remove any polish from the tile. Wipe the area with a moist cloth and dry with a cleaning cloth. Cleansers with this ingredient work well to remove scratches from a variety of surfaces, including tiled surfaces. You can find these cleansers at home improvement stores and some grocery stores.

3. Dampen the scratches on the tile. Rub a pumice stick into the metal scratches. Wipe the residue with a clean, damp cloth and wipe it dry. You can find a pumice stick at home improvement stores or shops that specialize in ceramic tiles. This stick is safe for ceramic finishes.

4. Sand the scratches away with a small piece of sandpaper. Press lightly because you do not want to remove more of the finish than you need to in order to remove the metal scratch. Wipe away the dusty residue with a clean cloth. Dampen another cloth and wipe the area. Put a couple drops of metal polish over the sanded area, and then rub it in with a soft, clean cloth to restore shine. Only use this method on granite tile or non-wax tile floors.
