How to Repair Scratches on Particle Board Furniture
Particle board is a laminate of pressed wood shavings and chips that approximates a real piece of wood and is an excellent choice for inexpensive furniture. Particle board is more susceptible to scratches than real wood, but repairs can eliminate a surface scratch. A few supplies and tools from a hardware store will be needed, but no special skill is needed to repair a scratch that is on particle board furniture.
Spray furniture polish on the scratch. Rub the scratch with a soft cloth in a circular motion for a half minute to remove loose dirt and grime from the surface. Dry the scratch and the immediate surrounding area with a dry soft cloth.
Place the tip of a furniture marker pen that matches the color of the particle board against one side of the scratch. Press down on the marker as you slide it across the scratch. Remove the marker once you reach the other side of the scratch.
Repeat this procedure with the pen until you can barely see the scratch, if at all. Let the spot dry for two hours before proceeding.
Place the tip of a wax pencil against one side of the scratch. Press down on the pencil as you slide it across the scratch. Remove the pencil once you reach the other side of the scratch. Repeat this two times.
Spray furniture polish on the area where the scratch was and polish the area with a soft cloth in the same manner as before.
