How to Make a Simple Doorbell

Marshal M. Rosenthal

A doorbell, at its most basic, is a device that emits a noise when a button is pushed. You can make a simple doorbell from a few supplies purchased from a hobby store. A few supplies found around the house are also needed.

No expertise in electronics is necessary, although adult supervision is required if a child is making the doorbell, since a cutting tool must be used and there are exposed wires that can cut the skin.

  1. Twist the exposed ends of the black and red wires coming from the 9-volt battery snap between your fingers. Insert the exposed end of the red wire through one of the two contact holes on the bottom of the push button switch. Wrap a piece of electrical tape around the contact.

  2. Insert the exposed end of the black wire through one of the two contact holes on the bottom of the buzzer. Wrap a piece of electrical tape around the contact.

  3. Cut a 10 inch strip of electric wire from the electric wire spool with the scissors. Strip an inch of insulation off each end of the electric wire with the wire strippers.

  4. Twist the two exposed ends of the electric wire between your fingers. Insert one of the two exposed ends of the electric wire through the remaining contact hole on the bottom of the push button switch. Wrap a piece of electrical tape around the contact.

  5. Insert the other exposed end of the electric wire through the remaining contact hole on the bottom of the Buzzer. Wrap a piece of electrical tape around the contact.

  6. Insert the 9-volt battery into the 9-volt battery snap. Press the push button to sound the buzzer of the simple doorbell you have made.

Tip

Wear work gloves to protect your hands from the exposed wires.
