How to Rid Carpet of Spots and Stains That Keep Coming Back

J. Johnson

Sometimes, you notice a stain on your carpet and are able to clean it up with no problems. However, this is not always the case with stains. Some stains look like they’re gone when the carpet is wet with cleaning solution or water, but once it dries, you see that the spots or stains on your carpet has come back.

Most carpet stains and spots can be permanently removed.

Some innovative cleaning methods are necessary when this happens.

  1. Pour club soda onto the spots or stains that keep coming back. This helps to prevent them from setting any further into carpet fibers.

  2. Place a clean cloth over the carpet spots or stains and press firmly. Lift the cloth and place a dry area over the stains and press again. Continue this until you’ve removed most of the liquid.

  3. Fill a spray bottle with white distilled vinegar and spray the spots or stains liberally. Vinegar removes many types of stains and neutralizes odors. Let the vinegar sit for a few minutes and dry as you did in step 2.

  4. Mix 1 cup hydrogen peroxide and several drops of dish-washing liquid in a small container, if the spots or stains come back. Apply this solution to the carpet using a clean cloth. Dry as you did in step 2.

  5. Add a small amount of dry-cleaning solvent to a clean cloth if the spots or stains come back again. Blot the stains repeatedly with the cloth. Let your carpet air-dry.

  6. Tip

You can purchase dry-cleaning solvent from some grocery stores and from carpet-cleaning businesses.
