Craftsman offers lifetime free repair or replacement of some of its hand tools, provided the tool is not rusty and hasn't been modified. Many other tools, such as those with digital or electronic parts, do not carry a lifetime warranty but may be replaced within 90 days or even up to a year with proof of purchase if the item is defective.

How to Know if Your Tool Qualifies
Look for a label or any original packaging information that came with the tool when you bought it. If you've lost the information long ago or never had it in the first place, call the Craftsman customer service hotline at 888-331-4569 or take the tool to a local Sears tool department representative to ask about tool replacement.
A full lifetime warranty covers basic Craftsman hand tools such as hammers and tubing cutters, as well as some garden tools and ratchets or sockets. With the full warranty, you may return a defective or broken tool to the retailer that sold you the item. While the full warranty applies to many Craftsman hand tools, it does not apply to parts that wear out naturally over time, such as the cutting wheels on tubing cutters, or the blades on saws, snips, knives and bolt cutters.
Limited Warranties
Some Craftsman hand tools -- especially those with electric or electronic parts -- include a limited warranty. The length of the warranty varies depending upon the type of tool, but it is typically either 90 days or one year from purchase. The Craftsman replacement program requires the original purchase receipt for any tools that have limited -- rather than lifetime -- warranties.
Tip
Save the original receipts and warranty information when you purchase Craftsman tools to help ensure successful replacement or repair when necessary. You can keep them in a folder marked "Tools" or scan or take a smartphone photo of the receipts and save them on your computer.
Voided Warranties
While Craftsman generally replaces damaged or defective tools without question, the retailer may deny your request if the tool has been modified or used for tasks other than the intended purpose or if the damage was caused by natural occurrences such as flooding.
