How to Troubleshoot Husky Pressure Washers

Husky’s line of pressure washers provide a quality alternative to more expensive professional-series pressure cleaners. Their rolling chassis and lightweight components make maneuvering and using the washer easy. Because these washers use a simple design, they are relatively trouble-free.

However, most problems associated with irregular pressure, a failure to produce a water stream or a failure to turn on or stay turned on are easy to correct.

Irregular Pressure

  1. Use a shorter garden hose to increase the water pressure. Because the pressure washer requires water pressure, it is important to use a hose of a proper length. If using city-supplied water, the length of the hose should not exceed 50 feet. If using water from a well, the length should not exceed 30 feet.

  2. Clear the pump of any air, as air bubbles in the pressure washer’s pump will cause a sporadic water stream. Pull the trigger of the pressure gun and turn the unit on. Allow the water and air to exit the nozzle of the gun until the water stream is steady.

  3. Clear the nozzle of any clogs by inserting the tip of a stiff wire, such as a bent paperclip, into the nozzle’s spray hose.

Washer Does Not Produce Water Stream

  1. Check whether the garden hose is kinked, particularly if using a thin hose or a hose wrapped around a hose storage wheel.

  2. Clear the nozzle of any clogs by inserting the tip of a stiff wire, such as a bent paperclip, into the nozzle’s spray hose.

  3. Clear the screen filter of any clogs. The screen is used to filter the water supply of debris before the water reaches the pump. It enough debris clogs the screen, the water will not reach the pump and water will not exit the spray gun. Unscrew the water inlet nipple to expose the screen. The inlet nipple is the plastic piece into which the garden hose screws. Pull the screen out of the body of the washer, then flush the screen with water and reinstall it.

Washer Will Not Start or Stops While Operating

  1. Ensure that the GFCI plug is functional and replace the plug if necessary. The pressure washer must be plugged into a GFCI electrical outlet, which can be identified by the red and black buttons located in the center of the plug between the plug’s two receptacles. If the receptacle is not functioning, it will not be able to provide electricity to the washer. Plug an electrical component known to be in working condition into the plug and turn on the component. If the component does not work, press the “Reset” button on the face of the receptacle. If the component still does not turn on, the receptacle probably needs to be replaced.

  2. Use only a 12 AWG outdoor extension cord that does not exceed 25 feet in length. Using an improper cord will not allow enough electricity to reach the washer.

  3. Turn the pressure washer off and allow it to cool, as the washer’s safety thermal switch may have turned the washer off after a long period of use.
