How Do I Replace the Bulb in a GE Steelbeam Fluorescent Lantern?
The GE Steelbeam fluorescent lamp was manufactured with two different styles of light bulb. Unfortunately, units that contain a long, straight bulb do not allow for bulb changes and should be discarded when the bulb goes out. Newer models, however, were manufactured with short, twisted bulb and are easily serviceable.
-
Move the lantern handle downward and grip the top of the lantern with one hand and the clear lantern housing with the other.
-
Pull the cover off the clear plastic housing. Be cautious, as the lid is retained with small plastic clips. If you pull too hard, you could damage the clips.
-
Remove the fluorescent bulb from the light socket by twisting it counterclockwise with your fingers, just as you would do with a regular light bulb. Discard the defective lightbulb, then thread the new bulb into the socket by turning it clockwise with your fingers.
-
Place the lantern on a table and place the cover on top of the clear housing. Press down firmly on the cover with the palm of your hand to snap it into place.
