How to Remove Epoxy Glue From Glass

While the process of getting epoxy glue off glass is not particularly complicated, it is a bit time consuming and may require a fair amount of patience on your part. You can combine several different tactics to have the best shot at getting the epoxy glue off the glass.

Be careful, since some of the solvents can irritate your skin.

Warning

Work in a well-ventilated area since all of these compounds can make you light headed.

  1. Wipe down the entire area with a paper towel and the glass cleaner to remove dust, grime or cobwebs that will complicate the process.

  2. Apply a liberal amount of the oil-based adhesive remover to the epoxy glue. Depending on the structure of the container, you may need to pour some on a rag and wipe it on or you may be able to squirt it on. Leave your gloves on from this point forward to protect your hands from irritating liquids.

  3. Let the adhesive remover sit on the epoxy for about 5 minutes. It should begin to soften up the hard mass.

  4. Scrub the epoxy off with the dish scratcher. Since you are using the scratcher on glass, it should not harm the glass any more than it would harm a plate that had burnt on food. The scratcher can be a little damp if you wish. You will probably only get the top layer of epoxy off, and you will likely have to revisit the epoxy with the adhesive remover several more times.

  5. Attack any resistant areas with lighter fluid. Use a different dish scratcher to apply and scrub the lighter fluid on the epoxy. This will likely further loosen it up.

  6. Wipe down the entire area with glass cleaner again. At this point, you may have trouble seeing what you are doing because of the solvents, glues and general crud that is coming off the glass.

  7. Clean up your area using paper towels and glass cleaner so that you can get an idea of your progress.
