How to Remove Hard Water With Essential Oil
Hard water occurs when an abundance of minerals are present in the water. Hard water is a common problem in many homes, and can leave surfaces -- such as shower doors, bathtubs, sinks, and faucet fixtures -- looking dull and dingy.
There are a variety of cleaning chemicals designed to remove hard water residue and stains. However, these products contain harsh chemicals that can pollute your environment. Instead, use all-natural essential oils to remove hard water film from your home.
Things You Will Need
- Spray bottle
- Distilled water
- Lemon essential oil
- Cloths
- Towel
Tip
Cleaning with lemon essential oil will fill the area with a pleasant citrus scent. Equal parts water and white vinegar will also remove hard water spots and film without harsh chemicals.
-
Fill a spray bottle with 1 cup water and 10 drops lemon essential oil. Gently swirl the bottle in a circular motion to mix the contents. Lemon oil is naturally acidic, and will cut through tough hard water grime.
-
Spray the mixture directly onto the hard water spot and let it sit for 30 seconds. Rub the surface clean with a cloth.
-
Continue rubbing and applying the mixture until you have removed the hard water spot. Wipe the surface clean with a dry cloth.
-
Prevent hard water spots and stains by drying shower doors, bathtubs, faucets, and sinks whenever they become wet.
