How to Install Frigidaire Pedestal
Frigidaire front-loading washing machines and dryers are available with an optional pedestal that matches the finish of the appliance. The pedestal is installed under the washer or dryer, elevating the appliance off the ground. This elevation reduces the bending required while loading and unloading the appliances. The pedestals also offer additional storage space, as each pedestal has a drawer large enough to store most laundry products, such as stain lifter, dryer sheets and detergent. When installing the pedestals, ensure you have the assistance of several able-bodied partners, as the washing machine and dryer are very heavy.
Place towels, cardboard or carpet on the ground, beside the washer or dryer.
Pull the appliance forward, away from surrounding walls. Tip the washer or dryer on its side, resting it on the towels, cardboard or carpet to protect the appliance's finish.
Rotate each leg on the appliance clockwise until it is flush with the underside. If a locking nut is installed, rotate each leg counterclockwise, remove the nut and reinstall the leg.
Place the pedestal where the washer or dryer sat previously. Place a level on top of the pedestal and ensure the pedestal is level both front to back and side to side. If it is not level, use an adjustable wrench to raise or lower the four leveling legs. To raise the legs, rotate clockwise. To lower, rotate counterclockwise.
Tighten the lock nut, located above each foot on the pedestal, to ensure the legs do not move.
Attach the two L-shaped brackets included with the pedestal to the front of the top of the pedestal, with the vertical portion toward the front. Use the included screws to secure the brackets in place.
Align the rear mounting brackets. The rear mounting brackets have two tabs, labeled "A" and "B." The pedestal has three slots (labeled 1, 2 and 3) in which the brackets can be inserted, depending on the type of washer or dryer you have. To determine the type of washer or dryer that you have, look at the indentations on the side of the appliance's cabinet. If installing a dryer with three indentations, insert tab A into slot 1, with the arrow pointing toward the rear of the pedestal. If installing a dryer with two indentations, insert tab B into slot 3, with the arrow pointing toward the front of the pedestal. If installing a washer with three indentations, insert tab A into slot 2, with the arrow pointing toward the rear of the pedestal. If installing a dryer with the pattern resembling "IOI" in the indentations, insert tab A into slot 1, with the arrow pointing toward the front of the pedestal.
Secure the rear mounting brackets using the included screws.
Turn the pedestal on its side and align it with the washer or dryer. Secure the pedestal to the washer or dryer using the installed brackets and the included screws.
Lift the appliance, with pedestal attached, to the upright position with the help of several partners.
Loosen each mounting screw, securing the appliance to the pedestal, and then tighten it again. This allows the appliance to settle into place and removes the weight of the appliance from the screws. Push the washer or dryer pack into place.
