Remove the old door by unscrewing the hinges from the shed structure, using a screwdriver. Take off any latches that may be attached to the shed.
Measure the dimensions of the door with a tape measure. Write these measurements down with a pencil.
Cut your pieces of 2-by-4 to the lengths of your door dimensions, using a circular saw. When planning out your cuts, two pieces of 2-by-4 will be cut to the exact length of the top and bottom of your door. The pieces of 2-by-4 used for the sides must be 3 inches shorter than the length of the door sides.
Build a rectangular frame with the pieces of 2-by-4. Place the pieces on a flat surface so they are resting on their 2-inch side and place the side pieces in between the top and bottom pieces so they are even with the ends of the top and bottom pieces. Screw the frame together by driving 3-inch screws through the top and bottom pieces and into ends of the side pieces, using a drill with a screwdriver bit.
Cut your piece of plywood to the exact dimensions of the door. Lay the cut piece of plywood on top of the open frame. Screw the plywood to the frame by driving 1 1/2-inch screws through the top of the plywood into the sides of the frame. Space the screws appropriately 4 to 6 inches apart.
Place the hinges on the door frame and screw them into place. If there are already spots for them, use the existing locations. If not, position them approximately 12 to 18 inches from the top and bottom, depending on the size of the door. Screw the door atop the hinges.
Attach the door handle to the door on the opposite side of the hinges. Place the pieces of the latch you bought so one side is on the shed and the other is on the door. Screw the latch to the shed to provide a place for a lock. Place a lock in the latch to secure the building.
