These protect you from the sun in an outdoor location. Installation is fairly simple, depending on the product you purchase.

Step 1

Measure the height and the lengths along the top area of the installation. Buy the appropriate amount of fabric.

Step 2

Cut the wood furring strips with a saw to the appropriate lengths for the area where the sunscreen fabric is being installed. Hammer the strips to the top of a window sill or to the wooden posts atop the patio or porch.

Step 3

Install the fasteners. Specific fasteners will differ based on the type of fabric purchased, the company and the material. Wood fasteners will work for most projects. Drill holes along the furring strip. Screw the fasteners into place using screw eyes and screws.

Step 4

Attach the sunscreen fabric to the fastener. Typically the sunscreen fabric will have small holes that are reinforced that can be slipped onto the fasteners. The fasteners are usually permanent, while the sunscreen fabric can be removed.
