How to Repair a Dent in the Wall
A dent in a wall can occur when something bangs against the wall, like the end of a couch or table. Often, you don't realize you have a dented wall until you move the furniture. If you don't have a door stop on your doors, you may have dents caused by the doorknob hitting the wall. Thankfully, repairing a dented wall is simple.
- Clean the damaged area to brush away any dirt with a clean rag.
- Spread the surfacing compound with a putty knife held at a low angle. Apply one layer of the surfacing compound to the entire damaged area and let dry.
- Apply one or two more thin layers of the surfacing compound to the area and let dry.
- Sand the damaged area with fine-grit sandpaper until the area is flush with the wall. Wipe away any dust with a clean rag. Prime and paint the damaged area if desired.
