Instructions for the Black & Decker Lids Off Automatic Jar Opener

Tara Kimball

The Black & Decker Lids Off automatic jar opener makes opening tight jar lids quicker and easier compared with struggling with it by hand. When it is difficult to maintain a grip on the lid, the Lids Off automatic opener locks the jar in place and removes the lid with the push of a button. Understanding how to operate the opener helps you successfully open jars when the lid is too tight to open by hand. Use the opener properly to avoid damage to the opener or the jar.

  1. Plug the power cord into a wall outlet. Place your hand on the handle at the top of the opener. Push the release button and lift the top of the opener until it locks in the raised position.

  2. Turn the lower jar supports to the left to open them completely, if they are not already open. The base that the supports are mounted to then spin.

  3. Remove any plastic bands or safety straps from the top of the jar. Wipe the lid to remove any moisture if the jar has been stored in the refrigerator. Place the jar in the lower supports. Push the release button on the handle at the top of the opener. Lower the top until it locks onto the jar.

  4. Push the "ON/OFF" button and hold it until you hear the jar pop, indicating that the vacuum seal has broken. If the jar lid is a screw top, hold the button for one full rotation to be sure the lid is loose enough to remove.

  5. Push the release button on the handle to lift the top of the opener. Turn the lower portion of the opener to the left and remove the jar.

  6. Unplug the cord from the wall outlet before cleaning the opener. Wipe any spills with a damp cloth. Use a gentle dish detergent with the damp cloth if necessary.
