What Is Ceramic Tile Grout?

Ceramic tile grout is a medium that acts as adhesive when building a tile backsplash, tile floor, a tile shower and even tile or mosaic-related crafts, such as flower pots. Ceramic tile grout is made to adhere to ceramic surfaces. However, you can use it on plastic surfaces.

Applying Grout to a Plastic Pot

Open your container of ceramic tile grout and dip a plastic knife into it. Pull out a small slab of grout and spread it on the plastic pot. To do this, you may want to turn the pot upside down. Move the pot around from side to side, spreading more grout as you go. Once the entire pot is covered in grout that is about 1/4-inch thick, you can add embellishments. If your layer of grout is thicker than this, then that's fine. You will be pressing marbles, buttons and other embellishments into the grout, and they will need a good cushion.

Cover a plastic flower pot with ceramic tile grout and then press embellishments into it such as river rocks, old buttons, faux jewels and broken tile pieces. Once you have arranged your pieces, cover the raised areas around sharp edges with more grout. Allow the grout to dry according to package instructions, then wipe away excess grout with a wet, clean sponge.

Alternatives to Grout

Instead of placing grout on a plastic flower pot, use hot glue instead. Simply load a hot glue gun with a glue stick and plug the gun into a power outlet. Allow the glue to heat up for a few minutes, and then squeeze it onto shells, buttons, broken tile pieces, marbles and other embellishments one at a time. Blow on the glue for 2 seconds so the glue will not be so hot that it will melt the plastic flower pot, and then press into the flower pot. Allow the glue to dry.
