How Do I Remove Furniture Polish From a Hardwood Floor?
Furniture polish will restore and revive your wood furniture, but it is not something you should use on your hardwood floors. Furniture polish will make your wood floors slippery, creating a hazardous area. If you accidentally get furniture polish on your wood floors, there is a safe and effective way to remove it.
Things You Will Need
- Broom
- Dust mop
- Distilled white vinegar
- Bucket
- Clean cloth
- Dry towel
-
Sweep away any dirt on the hardwood floor using a broom. Use a dust mop to remove any dust lingering on the floor.
-
Mix 1 cup distilled white vinegar with 1 cup warm water, and pour into a bucket.
-
Dip a clean cloth into the vinegar and water mixture, and wring out the excess fluid so the cloth is damp.
-
Scrub the affected area of the floor with the damp cloth. You may need to dip the cloth back into the vinegar and water solution to use again until the furniture polish is completely gone.
-
Dry the floor with a clean towel to remove any moisture, eliminating the chance of water spots forming.
Tip
Use a regular mop instead of a cloth mop if the area that needs cleaning is large. Do not rinse your hardwood floor; vinegar will not cause damage to it. If necessary, polish your floor with wood polish intended only for wood floors.
Warning
Wear rubber gloves to protect your hands when cleaning.
