How to Care for Varathane Wood Floor

Constance Barker

Varathane polyurethane is a popular finish and easy to use. There is no sanding or any need to wear a face mask when applying. The product has only a slight odor, no need for special tools and does not change the original color of the wood. Taking care of your Varathane finished wood floor is easy.

Routine maintenance should keep your floor looking good for a long time.

  1. Remove dust and dirt from wood floors using a dust mop or sweeper with a soft bristle floor attachment.

  2. Mop Varathane wood floors with a damp mop, water and a mild dish soap. You may also use 1 cup of white vinegar in a gallon of warm water. Do not use a wet mop on wood floors, use a damp mop only.

  3. Allow floor to dry completely. Use cleaning pads and cleaning solution recommended by the manufacturer on your wood floors. Cleaning pads are microfiber pads attached to a floor mop. They are normally attached with hook-and-loop closures for easy attachment and removal. Spray cleaning solution on the pad and mop the floor. The cleaning solution adds shine and extra protection to the finish.

  4. Place protector pads on the bottom of furniture legs to protect Varathane wood floors. The pads provide protection from scratches and dents to your wood floors.

  5. Tip

Only use chemical cleaners that are specially made for your wood floor and finish. Check with the wood manufacturer to ensure you are using the proper cleaners. Be careful when walking on wood floors with high heels to not leave scratches or dents in wood.

    Warning

Do not use ammonia on wood floors. Do not allow water to pool on wood floors as this may warp wood.
