Problems With Craftmatic Beds

Kabrina McLaughlin

More than 1 million adjustable beds have been purchased in the 40-plus years Craftmatic has been in business. Many customers rave about the beds but complaints regarding various problems also abound.

Craftmatic began selling beds in the late 1960s.

Many customers complain about the additional costs for basic repairs or replacement parts for Craftmatic beds. Most complaints in Consumer Affairs reviews from 2005 through 2010 reference the wireless remote control that comes with each bed. Complaints explain that while the remote is simply made, and is necessary for use of the bed, replacement remotes range in price from $50 to $100.

Negative reports to Better Sleep Group and Consumer Affairs, from 2007 through 2010, state that the Craftmatic mattress is thin, uncomfortable and often bunches in the middle if the head and leg portions of the mattress are raised. Maneuverability of the bed is one key selling point, but complaints on these sites regarding the frame itself getting stuck in one position are also common.

Customer Service

Consumers submitted reviews to the Better Sleep Group describing the process of getting Craftmatic staff in to complete repairs as slow-going with some customers having ongoing issues for years. In general, consumers submit feedback for negative experiences more often than positive ones, so these reviews are not always proof of systemic problems.
