How to Clean Vinyl Deck Railing
Vinyl decking is often advertised as "no maintenance" or "maintenance-free."
While it is true the vinyl deck railings will not need stain or paint and are not susceptible to carpenter ants and termites, you will need to do some light cleaning to remove grime and dirt that has accumulated after being exposed to the elements. While vinyl deck railings are not technically maintenance-free, keeping them clean is surprisingly easy.
Tip
Clean mildew and mold with a solution of mild detergent and water.
Warning
Do not use any steel wool besides #0000 because it might scratch the vinyl.
-
Wash vinyl deck railing with a pressure washer on the lowest setting. This can remove loose grime with ease.
-
Mix one cup of white vinegar with warm water. Wipe down deck railing and rinse with a garden hose.
-
Scrub stains with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser or another dry cleaning pad.
-
Use #0000 steel wool to scrub away persistent stains.
-
Spray with a citrus-based cleaner, such as Orange Cleaner or Simple Green. Wipe clean with a towel.
