How to Repair Extension Table Extension Slides
Extension tables allow you to add extra leaves to expand your kitchen or dining room table for special occasions. Extension tables are able to extend because of a metal track and roller system. Sometimes, however, your extension table track, or extension slides, can become bent.
This is the most common problem when it comes to extension tables. Fortunately, this problem can usually be resolved without having to change out the track system on your table. This repair will be made easier if you have two people to assist you.
Things You Will Need
- Flashlight
- Chalk
- Channel locks
- Rag
- Wheel-bearing grease (or Vaseline)
Warning
Be extremely careful when working with table extension slides, as it is easy to pinch your fingers.
-
Crawl beneath your table with a flashlight and allow your two assistants to begin pulling the table apart from each end. Have them pull very slowly so you can find the place on the extension slide where your table is sticking.
-
Once you have found the area where it sticks, mark it with a small amount of chalk.
-
Grasp the bent edge of track firmly with the channel locks and bend it slowly back to its natural position.
-
Place a small amount of bearing grease, or Vaseline, on the end of a work rag.
-
Grease the entire length of the tracks on both sides.
-
Have your assistants work the table open and shut a couple times just to make sure it is working properly.
