GE Profile Range Troubleshooting
If you are having a problem with your GE Profile range, it could be due to a number of factors, depending on whether you have an electric or a gas stove. Some issue may require you to purchase a part or to have the range serviced, but you may be able to make some repairs to the range yourself.
Some simple GE Profile Range troubleshooting tips will help you narrow down the problem.
The Burners Will Not Heat or Will Partially Heat
If the burner will not heat or will only partially heat on your electric GE Profile range, check the burner to see if it is loose. If not, unplug it and then fully seat it. Check that you have selected the correct burner. Check that your pan has a flat bottom. If not, the electric sensor will not detect it. If the burners are not working but the clock is, the range may not be properly wired. Contact the installer. If just one burner does not work, try plugging it into a different receptacle. If it still will not work, the heating element must be replaced. If no burners work but the oven works, call for service.
If the burners will not heat or will only partially heat on your gas GE Profile range, check to see if the burner is loose. Check that the burner cap is properly seated, does not wobble or rock and is not tilted. Check that the cap and burner match. Check that the range has power. Turn the oven on. If the oven works but the burners do not, call for service. Check that you have the burner knob on the “lite” position.
The Oven Will Not Work
If the oven will not work or heat on your GE Profile Range, check that the controls are set on "Broil" or "Bake." For self-cleaning stoves, make sure the oven door is on the "Unlock" position. Check that the oven knobs are correctly positioned. If you removed them for cleaning, check that you reinstalled them in their proper locations. Make sure the circuit breakers are turned on. Replace any failed fuses, and reset the range by turning it off, waiting a minute, and then turning it back on. If you have a gas range, check that the gas to the range is turned on.
The Oven Temperature Is Incorrect
If the oven temperature is incorrect on your GE Profile range, check that the oven was preheated. Not preheating the oven will make a difference in getting the correct temperature and having pleasant cooking results. Check the cookware you are using. If you are using a dark baking pan, lower the oven temperature by 25 degrees. Dark pans retain heat, which can result in foods being overcooked or burned. Check that the heat source is able to circulate in the oven. If you are using aluminum foil on an oven shelf; never cover the complete shelf.
