How to Troubleshoot Hague Water Softeners
Hague water softeners are covered by a 25-year limited warranty. Hague will replace the media tank, brine tank, valve body and fine mesh polyresin free of charge for 25 years after the original purchase date. All other parts are provided free of charge for the first three years of ownership.
The owner must pay a percentage of the cost of replacement parts during the third through the tenth year. If the water softener does not function properly, troubleshoot it.
Things You Will Need

- Broom handle
No Display
-
Plug the power cord into a working electrical outlet. If the outlet is a GFCI outlet, press the button on the outlet to reset it.
-
Check the temperature of the room. If the temperature exceeds 120 degrees Fahrenheit, the display will not function. The water softener will operate as intended, but the display will not function until the room temperature is below 120 degrees.
-
Contact a service technician to inspect the transformer and circuit board to determine if replacement is necessary.
No Soft Water
-
Turn the blue cone-shaped knob located on the main control valve clockwise to place the bypass valve into the service position.
-
Press the “Change Digit” button to display the current hour if “Set Time” is shown on the display. Press the “Set Digit” button to move the cursor and set the minutes. Press the “Change Digit” button to display the correct minutes. Press the “Select Digit” button to set it. Select “AM” or “PM” and press the “Next” button.
-
Turn the blending dial so that it points toward the inlet side and away from the main valve body to close it.
No Soft Water After Regeneration
-
Add salt to the brine cabinet if the salt level is less than 1/3 full or the salt level is below the water level. Use regular salt. Do not use rock salt.
-
Inspect the drain line on the drain end cap. Remove kinks or crimps in the line.
-
Insert a broom handle into the brine cabinet to dislodge a salt bridge. High humidity levels or using rock salt can cause the formation of a salt bridge.
