How to Install a Dishwasher Trim Kit
A dishwasher trim kit can be installed fairly easily, and will give a polished look to your kitchen. The trim helps to hide gaps between the dishwasher and the cabinets and provides noise reduction. Trim kits are available in hardware stores and where appliances are sold in the dishwasher accessories section.
Most are brand and model specific and come in the standard colors of black, white, and bisque. For a custom look the trim kit can be substituted with wood to match the kitchen cabinets and installed by your carpenter.
Things You Will Need
- Utility knife
- Straight edge
-
Open the dishwasher door completely.
-
Check the space around the tub. If the area is pretty tight the dishwasher can be pulled out a little to allow for more room.
-
Check the length of the trim for the right side against the tub flange on the dishwasher. If the trim is too long cut the trim carefully using a sharp utility knife and a straight edge. Match the groove in the trim to to the groove on the tub flange on the right side. Slowly slide the trim down the length of the tub until it is all the way at the bottom. Repeat for the left side.
-
Check the length of the trim with the length of the tub flange on top of the dishwasher tub. Trim if necessary.
-
Push the dishwasher back into place if it was pulled forward.
