How to Calculate Counter Sink Volume
"Volume" is a measurement used to describe how much of a solid, liquid or gas a particular object can contain. When it comes to the sink that is built into your kitchen or bathroom counter, volume refers to how much water that sink can hold.
The volume is in cubic inches, and it can be measured with a regular tape measure and a bit of simple math.
-
Stretch a tape measure across the front of the sink. With one edge of the tape measure touching the beginning of the front portion of the sink, read the inch measurement on the other side of the tape measure at the end of the front portion of your sink. This measurement, in inches, is the length of your sink.
-
Stretch a tape measure across either side of the sink. With one edge of the tape measure touching the front of the sink, read the inch measurement on the back of the sink. This measurement, in inches, is the width of your sink.
-
Measure from the top of the sink down to its bottom, where the sink bowl meets the hole for the drain. If it helps, lay a long, flat object, such as a yard stick, across the top of the sink, and then measure from the yard stick down in a straight line to the drain. This measurement, in inches, is the depth of your sink.
-
Multiply the three measurements to find the volume of the sink in cubic inches. The equation is length x width x depth = volume in cubic inches.
Things You Will Need
- Tape measure
- Yard stick or other long, flat object (optional)
