How do I Remove Hinge Caps From Mini Fridge Doors?
Many people use a mini fridge in their workshop, den or garage to store beverages and snacks. The door handle on a mini fridge reverses to allow the door to swing open in the opposite direction, just like a house refrigerator.
Removing and changing the handle requires removing the hinge cap just like on the bigger models. The hinge cap covers the upper hinge pin and simply snaps on and snap off in most cases.
Things You Will Need
- Masking tape
- Flat-head screwdriver
Tip
The hinge cap will snap back into place when you push it over the hinge pin.
-
Pull the mini fridge away from the wall and unplug the power cord. Although you are not working directly with the electrical system, it is a good safety practice to disconnect the fridge from the power supply while making repairs.
-
Place masking tape over the blade end of a flat-head screwdriver. The masking tape protects the finish of the fridge while you are prying the hinge caps off.
-
Insert the blade of the screwdriver between the bottom of the hinge cap and top of the fridge. Some hinge caps have a small notch on the side of the cap to accommodate the screwdriver.
-
Turn the handle of the screwdriver with your hand to pry the hinge cap off the fridge. Remove the hinge cap and set it in a safe place until you are ready to reinstall it on the fridge.
