When it comes to taking apart a Speed Queen dryer, you will find that disassembly is much the same as any other brand. For all of the work the dryers do, they are simple appliances. The main difference between Speed Queen driers and other brands is that you will find the lint catcher inside of the door like a Maytag, instead of on top of the dryer. Taking the dryer apart will take the average do-it-yourselfer less than 30 minutes. Once it is apart, you can make any repair necessary and then reassemble the unit.
Things You Will Need
- Phillips screwdriver
- Putty knife
Warning
Never attempt to service a Speed Queen dryer or any other appliance without first removing the power source.
-
Unplug the power cord on the Speed Queen from the electrical outlet. Pull open the dryer door and remove the lint screen. Remove the screws from the lip of the door opening using a Phillips screwdriver. Pull out on the bottom front of the dryer to disengage the retaining clips at the top of the panel.
-
Insert the putty knife into the seam between the front of the dryer and the side panel to help free it from the clips if necessary. Disconnect the wire to the door on the front panel and set the panel aside. Make whatever repairs are necessary to the dryer as you now have access to everything.
-
Clean out any lint that may be in the dryer since you have it open. Place the front panel back on the Speed Queen dryer. Plug the wire in for the door switch before you completely install the front panel. Push firmly on the bottom of the panel to lock the clips into place.
-
Install the retaining screws in the lip of the door opening and tighten them using a screwdriver. Install the lint screen and close the dryer door. Plug the dryer back into the electrical outlet. Turn the dryer on to test the new part(s).
