How to Clean Rubber Out of Carpet
Sticky rubber adhering to your carpet can be a nightmare to remove. A small patch of rubber from a shoe sole, the foot of a couch or another source, can often be removed with a bit of time and elbow grease. For large rubber stains, you may need to replace your carpet.
Things You Will Need
- Mineral oil
- Scrub brush
- White towel
- Turpentine
-
Test mineral oil in an inconspicuous area of your carpet. Leave it on for 24 hours and look for any fading or change in color before proceeding.
-
Douse a white rag cloth with mineral oil and use it to break up the rubber.
-
Use the scrub brush to loosen the rubber pieces and brush them away. Work until there are no solid pieces of rubber left on the carpet--just a dark stain.
-
Test the turpentine on a small, inconspicuous test patch. Leave it for 24 hours and assess.
-
Dab turpentine on the stain with the white cloth. Press down on the cloth to soak up the black stain.
-
When the stain has been removed, soak a clean cloth in water and apply it to the carpet to clean the area.
