TOTO was the first producer of vitreous china sanitary ware in Japan. Over the years, the company expanded its offerings to include a complete line of plumbing fixtures and accessories. However, the company is most widely known for its high-efficiency toilets (HET). TOTO has more HET options than any other manufacturer. With such a large customer base, questions are bound to arise.
What types of toilets are available?
TOTO offers complete plumbing suites that fit many budgets and styles. Round or elongated bowls, standard or ADA height, one-piece or two-piece toilets, low-flow and high efficiency toilets are all available.
What is the difference between a one-piece and a two-piece toilet?
Two-piece toilets have a separate tank and bowl. One-piece designs have a single tank and bowl design.
Which TOTO toilets have the best performance for residential applications? All TOTO toilets have a larger than average 2 1/8-inch glazed trapway and 3-inch flush valve for flushing power and to prevent clogs. But there are different flushing systems.
Double Cyclone: This system uses the power of water and gravity to create a forceful 1.28 gallons per flush (GPF) to help maximize cleaning action. It has two nozzles instead of rim holes that use water more efficiently for a better wash that means less cleaning for the user.
G-Max: For use in commercial and high-end residences. It was designed to deliver exceptional performance without the drawbacks commonly associated with power-assisted flushing systems. The G-Max features high head pressure to maximize flow rate, siphon jest action to assist performance for efficiency and a 2 1/8-inch glazed trapway and 3-inch flush valve.
E-Max: TOTO's E-Max is the company's answer to pressure-assisted flushing. It uses 1.28 gallons and the same engineering as the G-Max system, but offers water savings of 20 percent. E-Max features a wide 3-inch flush valve, 2 1/8-inch glazed trapway, pilot-operated fill valve for quiet operation and clean shut-off and an extra-large siphon jet.
Dual-Max: This dual flush system doesn't sacrifice performance for conservation and features an integrated control that lets you select 0.9 GPF or 1.6 GPF.
Are TOTO toilets pressure assisted?
No. TOTO does not have "pressure assisted" or "vacuum assisted" toilets.
What is SanaGloss?
SanaGloss is a ceramic glaze finish that cleans your toilet surface with a single flush. It reduces the growth of bacteria and prevents staining. SanaGloss seals the bowl with an ionized barrier, creating a nonporous surface that prevents particles from sticking to the bowl surface.
What is a rough-in and how is it measured?
This is the distance from the center of the drain-waste pipe to the wall. The most common size is 12 inches.
What is a UniFit rough-in?
A UniFit rough-in replaces the lower half of a toilet's trapway and is designed to allow easy installation. It comes in 10, 12 and 14 inches and is available on skirted models.
Why is there a note about installing a skirted toilet?
A skirted toilet is designed to fit almost flush with the wall. This design can interfere with the positioning of the supply line. Make sure you refer to the spec sheet for the suggested positioning of the supply line.
Are TOTO toilets different to install than any other toilet?
No. TOTO toilets install the same as any other toilets.
Is the seat included with the toilet?
One-piece toilets come with the seat and two-piece toilets do not.
Will any seat fit?
Yes. A standard 5 ½-inch spread seat will fit.
