Instructions for Priming a Deep Well Jet Pump

Once you install a Deep Well pump from Jet, you must prime the pump before it will pull water from the wall and send it into your home.
Priming a pump is the process of filling the pump with water. This voids the pump of air and allows the pump motor to build up pressure to move water. With air trapped in the pump, it will not force water into the home. Priming a Jet Deep Well and a Jet Shallow Well pump is the same process.

Step 1

Fill a gallon bucket with tap water. If you do not have tap water due to installing the well pump, use store bought water.

Step 2

Pour the water into the discharge hole in the pump housing or into the automatic regulator mounted onto the discharge of the pump. Fill until water pours out of the hole.

Step 3

Adjust the pressure regulator to the maximum pressure setting. Wait until the pressure gauge starts to read a buildup in water pressure.

Step 4

Open the regulator slowly to force the pump to discharge water. Continue to open the regulator until the pump's noise changes or the flow of water decreases. Close the regulator until the pump returns to its normal sound. This is the correct pressure to maintain the proper prime on the pump.
