How to Set a Taylor 5563 Scale

The Taylor 5563 is a body fat analyzer and scale. The scale uses Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) as to measure body fat. It is for use by persons 10 to 99 years of age, under 330 lbs and between 3 feet 4 inches and 7 feet 2 inches tall. It can store data for up to four individuals. Although the scale has an athlete mode, it is not for professional athletes or body builders. The athlete mode is for use by non-athletes who exercise regularly.

  1. Remove the battery compartment cover from the underside of the scale. Install one 9-volt alkaline battery and replace the battery compartment cover.

  2. Press lightly on the scale. The scale will be ready for use if the display flashes "0000" and then turns off.

  3. Move the slide switch at the bottom of the scale to choose your measurement preference of kilograms, pounds or stone-pounds.

  4. Press the Mode button on the top left to turn on the scale.

  5. Remove your shoes and socks, and if necessary your clothes, before proceeding to set the scale. The body fat analyzer is more accurate if no clothes are worn. Your feet should be clean and slightly damp.

  6. Press the Mode button to enter the body fat analyzer (BFA) mode. The height figure will blink. Press the up or down button to select your height.

  7. Press the Mode button to confirm your height selection. The age selection will now be available on the display. Press the up or down button to select your age.

  8. Press the Mode button to confirm your age selection. The gender icons will now blink. Press the up or down button to toggle between the male or female options.

  9. Press the Mode button to confirm your gender selection. The normal or athlete icon will now blink if you are 18 years or older. If you are under the age of 18 the scale will skip the next step.

  10. Press the up or down button to toggle between the normal or athlete options.

  11. Press the Mode button to confirm your normal or athlete selection.

  12. Press the up or down button to select a memory number 1 to 4. If a number is already occupied by another user it will display " " in the lower right hand corner of the display.

  13. Press the Mode button to hear one long beep and store the BFA settings. An "R" symbol and the user's height and age will display.

  14. Step on the scale with your bare feet. The weight will display for several seconds and then the body fat analysis will begin. You will hear a beep tone when the process is completed and the results will blink on the display.

  15. Press the Mode button to turn off the scale.
