How to Troubleshoot a Sylvania Microwave

Meredith Jameson

The Osram Sylvania Company manufactures a wide range of consumer items, including microwaves. Avoiding placing closed glass containers and whole eggs, as well as metal items or containers in a Sylvania microwave will help prevent possible fires or malfunctions with the unit. If problems occur during use, troubleshooting the Sylvania microwave may help identify and fix the issues.

Step 1

Ensure the power cord is securely attached to the microwave and plugged into a working, grounded power outlet, if the microwave is not working. Open and close the door firmly and press "Stop/Clear" to reset the unit.

Step 2

Touch the "0" button once and then press the "Start" button 5 times to unlock the "Child Lock" on the microwave, if the door will not open.

Step 3

Wipe the interior and exterior of the microwave with a clean, soft cloth if steam accumulates on and in the microwave. Steam is an indication of food with high moisture content or high humidity conditions.

Step 4

Pull out the rotating tray and wipe clean with a mild, non-abrasive cleaner if the microwave is making excessive noise during use. Wipe the rollers clean and the bottom of the microwave clean, as well. Dry all surfaces with a clean, dry cloth and return the rollers and rotating tray to the microwave.

Step 5

Press "Stop/Clear" if there is sparking in the microwave or if flames are seen. Unplug the microwave and allow it to cool completely. Open the microwave and remove the container, dish or utensils. If they are metal or have metal components or trim, contact an authorized service technician.
