How do I Repair a Mesh Chair?

Marysia Walcerz

Mesh chairs are a portable, cheap, and popular way to stay comfortable during the summer or any time. But they're also prone to wearing out easily and may develop tears. Rather than throwing them out, you can easily repair them with supplies from your local hardware store.

Mesh beach chairs can be repaired easily at home if they develop a tear.
  1. Remove the torn or broken mesh from the chair by unscrewing the screws attaching it to the chair. Keep the screws you removed. You'll need them to reattach the new strips of mesh.

  2. Cut out as many new strips of mesh as you need to replace the torn mesh strips. Use the strips that you just removed as a template. Include at least 5 inches of extra mesh on the end so that you can fold the new mesh strip over itsel, and the frame of the chair. You can always remove excess mesh as needed.

  3. Fold the end of one of the new strips of mesh over itself and use the screws that you removed earlier to screw it into the hole in the metal chair frame.

  4. Pull the new strip of mesh tightly across the chair frame, weaving it through the existing mesh pattern. Make it as taut as the mesh that's already on the chair.

  5. Fold the remaining end of the new mesh over itself and use another screw to attach it to the corresponding hole on the other side of the chair frame.

  6. Repeat this procedure for each remaining replacement strip of mesh.
