How to Clean Olive Oil Out of Clothing

Daily activities like eating mean that eventually you will have to treat fabric stains. If you’re eating or cooking, you can end up with an olive oil stain on your clothing. If this happens, don’t panic; quick action and the right methods can get it out.

Olive oil can leave a stain on clothing.

Step 1

Scrape off as much of the olive oil as you can with a butter knife.

Step 2

Apply a prewash stain remover to the stained area of the clothing. Let it sit for at least five minutes to penetrate the olive oil stain.

Step 3

Set your washing machine to the hottest possible setting and add regular laundry detergent.

Step 4

Wash the stained clothing on the hot cycle and let it run all the way through.

Step 5

Remove the shirt and hang it up to air dry. Do not put it in the dryer because this can set in the stain if you haven’t gotten out all of the olive oil.

Step 6

Repeat the process if the olive oil stain is still there after the clothing air dries.
