How to Remove Krylon From Plastic

Krylon is one of the largest suppliers of aerosol paints in the world. The company's products are used by the working artist, commercial painter and industrial customer, not to mention homeowners. Though Krylon's precise spray tips, in conjunction with proper surface preparation, help prevent paint overspray, accidents can and do occur. While high-strength, commercially available paint stripper can be used to remove Krylon paint from metal surfaces, it usually is too abrasive for use on plastic.

Removing unwanted paint from plastic surfaces is simple.

Step 1

Clean the painted plastic with a sponge and soapy water to remove any dirt, oil or residue before applying the lacquer thinner.

Step 2

Saturate a soft cloth with lacquer thinner and wipe it over the painted area. Allow the thinner to soak into the paint for 20 minutes.

Step 3

Scrub away the paint using a scouring pad and a firm, circular motion. If the underlying plastic is very sensitive, use a bristled scrub brush instead.

Step 4

Wipe away the residue with a wet cloth.

Step 5

Repeat Steps 2 through 4 for any other painted areas of the plastic.
